The Serbian Group for Primary Immunodeficiencies (SGPI) was founded in 2019, with its initial headquarters in Niš (Serbia), under the professional leadership of Professor Goran Marjanović from the University Clinical Center Niš. The association was established with a clearly defined goal, to improve the recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PID) in Serbia.
In August 2024, a new Executive Comittee and Steering Committee were elected, with the current headquarters relocated to Belgrade. New directions of development were initiated, further strengthening SGPI as a national platform for comprehensive action in the field of inborn errors of immunity (IEI), the term currently used to describe primary immunodeficiencies according to contemporary nomenclature.
Today, SGPI brings together a growing number of active and honorary members and functions as a hub for continuous professional development, knowledge exchange, and the advancement of clinical practice.
Our regular activities include:
Monthly educational webinars
An annual international symposium dedicated to IEI
Mentorship and educational support for young physicians
A multidisciplinary approach to managing complex clinical cases
Collaboration and networking with expert centers in Serbia and abroad
As SGPI’s mission is to raise awareness of these rare diseases and improve the quality of life of individuals with IEI, we carefully listen to the needs of patients and their families. Particular attention is given to collaboration with the association POsPID (Support for Persons with Primary Immunodeficiencies) through joint projects and activities.
If you have a professional or research interest in IEI, we invite you to join us in our mission to collectively advance knowledge, clinical practice, and the quality of life of people living with these rare conditions.

The Young Members Section of the Serbian Group for Primary Immunodeficiencies (SGPI) aims to bring together young physicians specializing in internal medicine or pediatrics, as well as doctoral students interested in primary immunodeficiencies and autoinflammatory syndromes in both pediatric and adult populations.
Within the Young Members Section, educational seminars are held monthly, where young physicians, with the guidance of their mentors, present interesting clinical cases. Through discussion and the exchange of experiences, they gain knowledge in this field of rare diseases. In the “Awards and Grants” section, you can learn more about SGPI activities that support scientific research and recognize the best presentations by young physicians at our Symposium.
Suggestions for improving the work of the section or proposing additional activities can be sent to the official SGPI email address:
