Dr. Dusan Bogunovic is a Professor of Pediatrics and Vice Chair for Research at Columbia University in New York City. He leads the Center for Inborn Errors of Immunity, where his research focuses on human immunogenetics and the molecular mechanisms that underlie immune dysfunction. His laboratory investigates rare autoinflammatory syndromes, severe infectious diseases, and the unique immunobiology of individuals with Down syndrome, with a broader goal of uncovering principles of human immune regulation.

Dr. Bogunovic’s work has fundamentally shaped our understanding of type I interferon biology. His team identified essential regulatory roles for ISG15 and USP18 in interferon-driven inflammation, discoveries that have led to successful targeted therapies in patients with interferonopathies. His research has also elucidated mechanisms of gain-of-function mutations in JAK1 and STAT2, revealed novel aspects of monoallelic gene expression influencing disease penetrance, and characterized new inborn errors of immunity including TBK1 deficiency. These studies, published in Nature, The New England Journal of Medicine, Immunity, Cell, and The Journal of Experimental Medicine, have directly informed clinical management of rare immunological diseases.

Dr. Bogunovic earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Oncology and Immunology from New York University School of Medicine, and completed postdoctoral training in Human Genetics and Immunology at The Rockefeller University.

He has received numerous honors, including the ICIS–Luminex John R. Kettman Award for Excellence in Cytokine and Interferon Research, the Hirschl Scholar Award, and the Milstein Young Investigator Award from the International Cytokine and Interferon Society.

His work continues to bridge basic human genetics with translational immunology, advancing precision therapies for individuals with inborn errors of immunity.
